New research is emerging on the parallel occurrence of malnutrition in developing countries. While under-nutrition continues to persist, the rapidly increasing rate of over-nutrition is initiating a cycle of complex health complications. Beginning in the early lifecycle, the impact of under-nutrition can lead to susceptibility of infection and predisposition to obesity, contributing to an escalation of diet-related chronic diseases. Scientists and researchers are working to better understand the challenges and opportunities generated by global nutrition and how recommendations for health can be improved.

On July 7-8, 2010, a panel of world-renowned physicians and researchers presented new research on the emerging field of global health, including discussions on under- and over-nutrition, infection, and chronic diseases.
